Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The 49ers robbed the room for Henderson. Final grade: D.

The 49ers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Dart proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The Henderson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In pick 8 they get a problem off the edge at fair value.
Pick29 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 29 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jaxson Dart
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaxson Dart a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick61 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
Circle this one: Barrett Carter at the 61st pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick63 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Nothing to complain about; Tate Ratledge went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick95 Rnd3 Clay Webb
By-the-book stuff, Clay Webb at the 95th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Bear Alexander
No drama and no debate, Bear Alexander went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159 Rnd5 Jaheim Oatis
Jaheim Oatis at Round 5, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick191 Rnd6 Will Sheppard
They let Will Sheppard come to them and pounced at pick No. 191. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Will Howard
Will Howard in No. 223 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
