Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesD FutureA
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

Some picks age like wine; Carson Vinson at the 147th overall pick will need to, sitting 77 spots clear of his grade.

However the rest shakes out, Ferguson at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Jihaad Campbell
In the 24th pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at pick 43 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
They paid sticker price for Maxwell Hairston in No. 75, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick97 Rnd3 Sai'vion Jones
They reached into another round for Sai'vion Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick100 Rnd3 Oluwafemi Oladejo
A big swing on Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Good price on Anthony Belton in the 113th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
A real head-scratcher, Kyle Williams in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147 Rnd5 Carson Vinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Carson Vinson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick160 Rnd5 Terrance Ferguson
The board fumbled Terrance Ferguson all the way to pick No. 160, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick227 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
No edge and no loss on Cam Horsley in the 227th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Jacory Croskey-Merritt in pick 249 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252 Rnd7 Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike in No. 252 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
