Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall A-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: A-.

The Cam Jackson pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 83 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Longerbeam. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Bottom line, with Josh Simmons leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In No. 17 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick25 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In slot 25 they get a load in the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kyle Kennard well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick49 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 17 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sai'vion Jones
A real head-scratcher, Sai'vion Jones in pick No. 75 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick112 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at the 112th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138 Rnd4 Cam Jackson
Value said wait; Cam Jackson in Round 4, Pick 37 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at the 149th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167 Rnd5 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick No. 167 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189 Rnd6 Chase Lundt
Taking Chase Lundt in No. 189 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick228 Rnd7 Chimere Dike
Circle this one: Chimere Dike at slot 228 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Somehow Donovan Edwards was still sitting there in pick 232, and they pounced on premier running back value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick235 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
They reached a country mile for Tonka Hemingway at pick No. 235, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255 Rnd7 Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at Round 7, Pick 37 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
