FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Sanders: B+. The rest of the league will want that one back. Raheim Sanders tumbling to the 49ers in No. 230 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The cost of the Woodard reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Mike Green
In the 30th pick they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at slot 43 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Derrick Harmon
The board fumbled Derrick Harmon all the way to Round 3, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in pick No. 100 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish at pick 113 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick138
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Emery Jones Jr. graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148
Rnd5
Terrance Ferguson
They barely believed it either: Terrance Ferguson still on the board at the 148th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick169
Rnd5
Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike in No. 169 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick187
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick226
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
They reached into another round for Tonka Hemingway, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230
Rnd7
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick240
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Carson Vinson in No. 240, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick249
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at pick 249 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jackson Woodard
Jackson Woodard at slot 252 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
