Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueD+ NeedB TradesD+ FutureA+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent slot 112 on JJ Pegues, a name the board had a full 75 spots lower. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Getting Monangai where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in the 43rd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick57 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 57th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74 Rnd3 Sai'vion Jones
A real head-scratcher, Sai'vion Jones in pick 74 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Billy Bowman Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Billy Bowman Jr.. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at slot 99 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick110 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Value said wait; Darius Alexander in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112 Rnd4 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in No. 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd4 Cody Simon
They took Cody Simon at par in the 138th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
They liked Pat Bryant enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 139. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jackson Hawes
A big swing on Jackson Hawes at pick No. 189, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick228 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai at Round 7, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232 Rnd7 J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at the 232nd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick255 Rnd7 Nohl Williams
A wild overpay on Nohl Williams in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
