Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-

Grand theft in slot 249: the 49ers steal Martinez and grade out a B-.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Damien Martinez, slot 249, roughly 99 picks past where he belonged.

Oladejo has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In the 14th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
They robbed the room for Kenneth Grant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sai'vion Jones
A big swing on Sai'vion Jones at Round 3, Pick 11, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 100th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel is a better player than pick 113 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
A tight end of that caliber at slot 138 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147 Rnd5 Oluwafemi Oladejo
They reached a country mile for Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at pick No. 151 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick160 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227 Rnd7 Chimere Dike
Taking Chimere Dike in slot 227 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249 Rnd7 Damien Martinez
They will replay Damien Martinez at the 249th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw at the 252nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
