Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA- FutureB
The 49ers let Trice fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Bralen Trice, the No. 63 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 94.

For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting Melton proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Graham Barton at the 34th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63 Rnd2 Max Melton
A reach on Max Melton in Round 2, Pick 31; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick94 Rnd3 Bralen Trice
Somehow Bralen Trice was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at pick 124 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick131 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
A straight-up fair deal on Roger Rosengarten at the 131st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd6 Tykee Smith
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 176, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick211 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson in slot 211 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nathaniel Watson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick251 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens at Round 7, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
