A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent the 249th pick on Marcus Harris, a name the board had a full 54 spots lower.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took White III. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In pick No. 11 they get a premier pass rusher. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in the 43rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in pick 75 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at No. 100 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
The board had Kevin Winston Jr. higher than the 113th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick138
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Darius Alexander in Round 4, Pick 36. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in No. 147 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187
Rnd6
Addison West
They took Addison West at par in the 187th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A premium they did not need to pay, Teddye Buchanan a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick230
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in slot 230 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Marcus Harris
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marcus Harris in Round 7, Pick 33, miles early. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick252
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns is a better player than pick 252 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
