tt DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers

The 49ers robbed the room for Felton. Final grade: B-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tai Felton, the No. 103 name on the board, stolen at slot 138. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Every board in the league had Burch lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
The board had cheaper options than Alfred Collins at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at the 75th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Charles Grant
They took Charles Grant at par in pick 99, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick112
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
This one needs a full-page explanation: Darius Alexander in slot 112, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Somehow Tai Felton was still sitting there in the 138th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
A reach on Mitchell Evans in pick No. 139; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in No. 189 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick228
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They read the board right and Carson Vinson was the payoff at pick No. 228. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick232
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
By-the-book stuff, Teddye Buchanan at the 232nd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick255
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
