The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Slaughter: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Jake Slaughter, the No. 34 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 57th pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Capehart has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Their trades came out a wash either way.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In slot 29 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at Round 2, Pick 25 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 91 with a little surplus value in Keith Abney II. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick93 Rnd3 Austin Siereveld
Austin Siereveld in the 93rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zachariah Branch in the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134 Rnd4 Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne in the 134th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
A conviction pick on DeMonte Capehart at No. 139 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick140 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jalon Kilgore in pick 140, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
