Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureA+
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Felton: A-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Tai Felton, the No. 98 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 138. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

Every board in the league had Kiser lower, and that gap is the story. The 49ers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren is a better player than pick No. 33 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick43 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to the 43rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Value with a capital V on Donovan Jackson in Round 3, Pick 11, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in the 100th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick113 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick138 Rnd4 Tai Felton
Tai Felton at pick 138 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A reach on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in slot 147; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jack Kiser
A wild overpay on Jack Kiser in No. 151, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160 Rnd5 Kurtis Rourke
A quarterback of that caliber at pick No. 160 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200 Rnd6 CJ West
A slide stopped in slot 200, with CJ West worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in the 227th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
They paid sticker price for Teddye Buchanan in the 249th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick252 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
By-the-book stuff, Cody Lindenberg at pick 252 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
