tt DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers. The 49ers torched the value chart for David Walker, taking him 73 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
On value alone, Skattebo makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 11th overall pick they get a load in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
A conviction pick on Marcus Mbow at pick 43 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A big swing on Charles Grant at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99
Rnd3
David Walker
This one needs a full-page explanation: David Walker in the 99th pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darius Alexander well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd4
Nick Nash
They jumped the gun on Nick Nash, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the 189th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick228
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
A straight-up fair deal on Zeek Biggers at Round 7, Pick 10, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232
Rnd7
Maxen Hook
They reached into another round for Maxen Hook, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick255
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 255 with a little surplus value in Cody Lindenberg. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
