tt DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers let Skattebo fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 185th pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If Turner pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mason Graham
Mason Graham at pick 11 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
They talked themselves into Shemar Turner at pick No. 75, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darius Alexander well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in No. 111 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
They liked Jackson Slater enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 137. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185
Rnd6
Cam Skattebo
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in the 226th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick230
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
They paid sticker price for Cody Lindenberg in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick249
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in Round 7, Pick 33 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick255
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
Moliki Matavao at pick No. 255 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
