Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesB FutureB
The 49ers let Echoles fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Will Echoles got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at the Round 2 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Paige left real value on the table behind him.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 David Stone
In pick 27 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Will Echoles
The board fumbled Will Echoles all the way to pick No. 58, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 J'Koby Williams
J'Koby Williams at No. 127 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Justin Evans
They let Justin Evans come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 33. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Elijah Paige
They liked Elijah Paige enough to skip the value, taking him in the 138th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171 Rnd5 Coen Echols
Coen Echols at the 171st overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
