Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueD NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent Round 3, Pick 11 on KJ Jefferson, a name most had 255 spots down the list. No fireworks, but a solid B.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. However the rest shakes out, Taylor at that price is a win they earned.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick11 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the 11th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tate Ratledge this early at Round 2, Pick 11. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick57 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
They took Demetrius Knight Jr. at par in pick No. 57, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 KJ Jefferson
KJ Jefferson at the 75th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Ulysses Bentley IV
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ulysses Bentley IV in slot 99, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in No. 102 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick112 Rnd4 Hunter Wohler
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hunter Wohler. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick119 Rnd4 Shaun Dolac
Shaun Dolac in Round 4, Pick 18 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick138 Rnd4 Cam Jackson
Value said wait; Cam Jackson in pick No. 138 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
They paid sticker price for Jonah Monheim in slot 142, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jalen Travis
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Travis in the 148th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick168 Rnd5 Ben Sauls
Ben Sauls slipping to pick 168 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick180 Rnd6 Kai Kroeger
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kai Kroeger well ahead of where he belonged. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jeremy Crawshaw
They talked themselves into Jeremy Crawshaw at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick228 Rnd7 Kain Medrano
Kain Medrano at No. 228 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
A wild overpay on Caleb Ransaw in the 230th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick232 Rnd7 Gee Scott Jr.
Gee Scott Jr. at slot 232 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick241 Rnd7 JT Daniels
JT Daniels at pick No. 241 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick246 Rnd7 Brandon Adams
Brandon Adams at the 246th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick255 Rnd7 Woodi Washington
They reached a country mile for Woodi Washington at pick 255, and the board is aghast. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick257 Rnd7 Zakhari Franklin
Zakhari Franklin in pick No. 257 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
