The 49ers bet big and early on Patrick Paul, 22 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. However the rest shakes out, Simpson at that price is a win they earned. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
