The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the McCaffrey reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Zinter. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with running back still staring back at them.
