tt DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-. The Francisco Mauigoa pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 56 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in pick 43 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick75
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason Taylor. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at slot 99 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Noel at the 112th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at pick No. 138 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139
Rnd4
Jack Nelson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Nelson well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick148
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A real head-scratcher, JJ Pegues in slot 148 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick189
Rnd6
Cobee Bryant
They read the board right and Cobee Bryant was the payoff at the 189th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick228
Rnd7
Francisco Mauigoa
Francisco Mauigoa at the 228th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick232
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A tidy little value on Isaac TeSlaa in pick No. 232, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick255
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Marcus Yarns worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
