Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Kingsley Eguakun, 48 picks ahead of schedule. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mims. They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman and quarterback went begging. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 31st overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick63 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in the 94th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124 Rnd4 Javon Foster
A clean, defensible pick in slot 124 with a little surplus value in Javon Foster. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
A reach for Justin Eboigbe in pick 131; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
A curious use of pick No. 133. Interior defensive lineman and quarterback needed the pick; a cornerback in Jarrian Jones did not.
Pick176 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 176th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jase McClellan
A quiet steal in No. 211: Jase McClellan for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick215 Rnd6 Erick All
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Erick All in pick 215. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick251 Rnd7 Kingsley Eguakun
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kingsley Eguakun well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
