Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB
The Chargers won the night they stopped Ford from sliding. Grade: B+.

Somebody in Round 7, Pick 33 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Jaylan Ford, the No. 205 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Milton III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In pick 9 they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at the 37th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at Round 2, Pick 11 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
A tidy bit of business in No. 69, where Malachi Corley graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at slot 75 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick105 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
Somehow Jaden Hicks was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick110 Rnd4 Mekhi Wingo
No drama and no debate, Mekhi Wingo went about where he belonged in pick No. 110. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick140 Rnd5 Isaiah Davis
A conviction pick on Isaiah Davis at the 140th pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick181 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in slot 181 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick225 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
They will replay Cornelius Johnson at Round 7, Pick 5 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
