The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D-.

The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tyler Loop at the 232nd overall pick regardless, 84 picks early. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Jackson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

In pick No. 11 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.

Somehow Kyren Lacy was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 14, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

No drama and no debate, JJ Pegues went about where he belonged in the 189th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.

A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ja'Quinden Jackson in No. 228, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

A big swing on Tyler Loop at No. 232, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
