Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-. Hard to follow the map here. The 49ers bypassed running back, quarterback and other spots to take Jarrian Jones at Round 4, Pick 25, a spot they had covered.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Carson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The cost of the Nugent reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In slot 31 they get a premier pass rusher. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at pick No. 63, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Mason McCormick
They took Mason McCormick at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick98
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
They let Caelen Carson come to them and pounced at pick 98. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jarrian Jones at cornerback with running back, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick132
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
A big swing on Drake Nugent at the 132nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kitan Oladapo in No. 176. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick209
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
By-the-book stuff, De'Corian Clark at Round 6, Pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick215
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at slot 215 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jalen Green
Jalen Green in pick 229 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick249
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
They went early on Zakhari Franklin in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
