FutureB
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Steelers reached some 26 spots for James Williams, and value like that does not grow back. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is not that Frazier is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 28th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick52
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick60
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A want over a need in the Round 2 slot: Zach Frazier adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick84
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
A straight-up fair deal on Marist Liufau at Round 3, Pick 20, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Zak Zinter, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick101
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the 101st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick108
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick130
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at pick 130 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
