Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tommy Eichenberg at pick 123 is 22 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The Beebe steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in slot 42, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
The board had Cooper Beebe higher than No. 59, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
By-the-book stuff, Bucky Irving at Round 3, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
They reached into another round for Tommy Eichenberg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick127
Rnd4
Josh Newton
Josh Newton at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
