FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Dolphins. Nobody had CJ West this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 32 spots to get him at the Round 5 slot. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Starks pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in pick No. 48 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick59
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
A clean, defensible pick in the 59th pick with a little surplus value in Alfred Collins. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
They took Zy Alexander at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson slid further than he should have, and No. 116 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at the 135th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jah Joyner
A reach on Jah Joyner in pick 150; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick155
Rnd5
CJ West
Value said wait; CJ West in Round 5, Pick 17 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick224
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
A straight-up fair deal on Desmond Watson at the 224th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick231
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Value with a capital V on Ricky White III in the 231st pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick253
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
