Smith should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B+.

The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Brashard Smith, the No. 131 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 6 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Every board in the league had Hairston lower, and that gap is the story. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
