Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Louis: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Kyle Louis slide 49 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Caldwell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
Chris Brazzell II at No. 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Akheem Mesidor
Steal is underselling it; Akheem Mesidor at pick 63 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick95 Rnd3 Blake Miller
They will replay Blake Miller at Round 3, Pick 31 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick125 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon at pick No. 125 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Dametrious Crownover
By-the-book stuff, Dametrious Crownover at slot 131 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick177 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Red Murdock
Red Murdock in the 189th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick200 Rnd6 Kyle Louis
You do not let a linebacker like Kyle Louis reach the 200th overall pick and blink. They did not. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick207 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeff Caldwell a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick210 Rnd6 Dalton Johnson
Dalton Johnson slipping to Round 6, Pick 31 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Miles Kitselman
They paid a round early for Miles Kitselman in slot 215, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick247 Rnd7 Charles Demmings
The board had Charles Demmings higher than No. 247, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
