JChapman79 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesC-
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Packers, and a C+ to match. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Sam Hartman at slot 192, a reach of 67 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Williams pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still on the board.
Hit on JC Latham and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 16th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick91
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 91 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
They went early on Leonard Taylor III in slot 102, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126
Rnd4
James Williams
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to take James Williams, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick169
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
By-the-book stuff, Malik Mustapha at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick179
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
A conviction pick on Tanor Bortolini at pick 179 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at Round 6, Pick 17. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick202
Rnd6
Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy in No. 202 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick245
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens in slot 245 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
A straight-up fair deal on Kimani Vidal at the 255th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
