Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Jackson Hawes at the 231st pick is 30 spots clear of where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Landing Taylor that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in Round 1, Pick 13 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick48 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
They let T.J. Sanders come to them and pounced at pick No. 48. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
Somehow Mason Taylor was still sitting there in No. 98, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick116 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Farmer at slot 116, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at pick 135 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick150 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Value with a capital V on Malachi Moore in the 150th pick, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick155 Rnd5 Luke Kandra
They paid sticker price for Luke Kandra in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jay Toia
Jay Toia at Round 7, Pick 8 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick231 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in the 231st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253 Rnd7 Shemar James
A slide stopped in the 253rd pick, with Shemar James worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
