Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-

FutureB-
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Joe Milton III, taking him 63 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Jackson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In pick 29 they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
They did well to land Chris Braswell in the 56th pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick59
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in pick No. 59, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick73
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
They paid up for Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
Value said wait; Jalen McMillan in slot 87 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 27 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick114
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at No. 114 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick116
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in pick No. 116, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Beaux Limmer well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Brennan Jackson
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Brennan Jackson with tight end unsolved.
Pick153
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
A big swing on Joe Milton III at slot 153, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylan Ford this early at the 174th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick216
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on JD Bertrand. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
