Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureB-
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jase McClellan at the 147th overall pick, roughly 70 spots before his name belonged.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Verse at that price is a win they earned.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the 24th pick they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Fair-plus on Xavier Legette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick64
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in the 64th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They took Khyree Jackson at par in slot 95, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick116
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer at pick 136 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick145
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at Round 5, Pick 9, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at the 147th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick153
Rnd5
McKinnley Jackson
The board had cheaper options than McKinnley Jackson at No. 153, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the 174th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick216
Rnd6
Keith Randolph Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 216 squarely in line with his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
