The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 39 spots for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Patriots indulged a want in Campbell while a need in edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. That Walker pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
