Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureA
The Patriots robbed the room for Brooks. Final grade: A-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Tahj Brooks tumbling to the Patriots in the Round 7 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, James Pearce Jr. and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In No. 14 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 38 with a little surplus value in Omarion Hampton. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick58
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
No drama and no debate, Donovan Jackson went about where he belonged in pick 58. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams at the 69th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77
Rnd3
Darien Porter
No edge and no loss on Darien Porter in the 77th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick106
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm is a better player than slot 106 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tory Horton
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Tory Horton graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Tyler Baron
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Baron at Round 5, Pick 10, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick191
Rnd6
Tyler Cooper
Tyler Cooper at pick 191 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Karene Reid
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Karene Reid at No. 217. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick232
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Somehow Tahj Brooks was still sitting there in the 232nd pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
