Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Jaguars let Dixon fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Jaguars should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Pearsall reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick No. 27 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48 Rnd2 Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at slot 48 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at Round 3, Pick 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy in the 90th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick96 Rnd3 Javon Baker
Javon Baker at the 96th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in No. 115; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 17: Tommy Eichenberg for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick212 Rnd6 Johnny Dixon
They robbed the room for Johnny Dixon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
A tidy bit of business in pick 236, where Frank Gore Jr. graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
