Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bears came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

They will need Washington to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Adding Chase Young by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick 6 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick11 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In slot 11 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They jumped the gun on Jackson Powers-Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick47 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in No. 47. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick67 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
They took Javon Bullard at par in pick No. 67, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the 75th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102 Rnd4 Malik Washington
They liked Malik Washington enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 2. The roster fit checks out.
Pick108 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
A reach on Darius Robinson in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick110 Rnd4 Max Melton
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick122 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in No. 122 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick146 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 146th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick 148 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick230 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at pick No. 230 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
