Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA
The Chargers worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-.

Whoever sat across the table from the Chargers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.

The Rice steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Chop Robinson and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Nothing to complain about; Troy Franklin went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick61 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
The board had T.J. Tampa higher than pick No. 61, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson slid further than he should have, and slot 69 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick73 Rnd3 Ruke Orhorhoro
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 73. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick105 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
They took Zak Zinter at par in the 105th pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Value with a capital V on Brenden Rice in pick 110, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at the 131st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at the 140th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in No. 181 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick225 Rnd7 Trey Knox
Trey Knox at pick No. 225 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick253 Rnd7 Josh Wallace
Josh Wallace in Round 7, Pick 33 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
