Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
The Lions won the night they stopped Ransom from sliding. Grade: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Lathan Ransom had no business being available in No. 130, and the Lions did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Bassa reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62 Rnd2 Elic Ayomanor
Nothing to complain about; Elic Ayomanor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeffrey Bassa a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in pick 111 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick130 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in slot 130 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kurtis Rourke
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kurtis Rourke in No. 149. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the 196th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213 Rnd6 Ricky White III
Ricky White III at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
