Larceny in the Round 7 slot lands the Panthers a B-, Brooks and all. The rest of the league will want that one back. Tahj Brooks tumbling to the Panthers in Round 7, Pick 14 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the 57th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick74
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Nice patience on Demetrius Knight Jr., who had no business lasting to pick 74. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111
Rnd4
David Walker
They took David Walker at par in the 111th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick114
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
No edge and no loss on Anthony Belton in slot 114; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick140
Rnd5
Dillon Gabriel
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dillon Gabriel in pick No. 140. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Oluwafemi Oladejo
A clean, defensible pick in No. 146 with a little surplus value in Oluwafemi Oladejo. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick163
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
