Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Broughton from sliding. Grade: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Vernon Broughton at the 217th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Henderson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
They jumped the gun on TreVeyon Henderson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149 Rnd5 Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones in slot 149 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick174 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Antwaun Powell-Ryland at No. 174 is the proof. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick204 Rnd6 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at the 204th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
You do not let a wide receiver like Dont'e Thornton Jr. reach the 211th pick and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick217 Rnd7 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at pick 217 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick239 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Steal is underselling it; Luke Lachey at the 239th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
The board fumbled Jordan Hancock all the way to pick 247, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
