Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the 49ers: C+.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Jared Wilson, taking him 59 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

Getting Wells Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jared Wilson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wilson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
They reached into another round for Dylan Fairchild, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100 Rnd3 Joshua Farmer
They liked Joshua Farmer enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jordan James
They took Jordan James at par in slot 113, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
They paid sticker price for Hollin Pierce in pick 138, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick147 Rnd5 Oluwafemi Oladejo
Nothing to complain about; Oluwafemi Oladejo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater in No. 160 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227 Rnd7 Antwane Wells Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Antwane Wells Jr. at slot 227 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie in pick 249 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick252 Rnd7 Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at the 252nd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
