Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Blake Watson in Round 7, Pick 35. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They banked enough surplus on Gore Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A reach for Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick60 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick88 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at Round 3, Pick 25 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
A premium they did not need to pay, Cole Bishop a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick126 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones at pick 126 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick128 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the 128th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick169 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
A reach on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 169th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick202 Rnd6 Eric Watts
A big swing on Eric Watts at pick 202, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick219 Rnd6 Dominique Hampton
Dominique Hampton at No. 219 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick245 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
They will replay Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 245 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick255 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson at slot 255 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
