Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-.

The 49ers spent real capital to be 88 picks early on Kingsley Eguakun, and the board is going to hold them to it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Morgan value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back, quarterback and other spots went begging. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In the 31st pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Taking Jordan Morgan in slot 63 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
A conviction pick on Leonard Taylor III at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Elijah Jones in the 124th overall pick leaves running back, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick131 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 131; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick133 Rnd4 Christian Jones
Christian Jones at No. 133 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick176 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
They jumped the gun on Cornelius Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211 Rnd6 Kingsley Eguakun
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Eguakun. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215 Rnd6 Nathan Thomas
Nathan Thomas at slot 215 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick251 Rnd7 Bub Means
A tidy little value on Bub Means in pick 251, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
