Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA FutureA-
The 49ers let Lacy fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Kyren Lacy slide 121 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Every board in the league had Mbow lower, and that gap is the story.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In the 11th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
They jumped the gun on Marcus Mbow, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
By-the-book stuff, Mason Taylor at No. 75 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
The board had Tez Johnson higher than the Round 3 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 139 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick140 Rnd5 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at pick No. 140 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jeffrey Bassa
Taking Jeffrey Bassa in Round 6, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick207 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
The board fumbled Earnest Greene III all the way to the 207th pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick228 Rnd7 CJ West
CJ West at the 228th overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Steal is underselling it; Jack Kiser at pick 232 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255 Rnd7 Kyren Lacy
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Kyren Lacy in pick No. 255, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
