Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans robbed the room for Hampton. Final grade: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Omarion Hampton had no business being available in No. 58, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in No. 58 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals slid further than he should have, and the 79th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick90 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at pick 90 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166 Rnd5 Jalen Rivers
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 166 with a little surplus value in Jalen Rivers. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick201 Rnd6 Woody Marks
Woody Marks at Round 6, Pick 25 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick236 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
They paid sticker price for Desmond Watson in slot 236, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick241 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the 241st pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
