Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Cowboys this weekend: B+. The Cowboys ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Reaching for Llewellyn left real value on the table behind him. The Cowboys indulged a want in Wheatley while a need in offensive lineman, running back and other spots stayed open. That Wheatley pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
They read the board right and Arvell Reese was the payoff at pick 18. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In No. 26 they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
The board had Emmanuel McNeil-Warren higher than Round 2, Pick 17, and the safety fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick92
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt at the 92nd overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick97
Rnd3
Tacario Davis
A reach for Tacario Davis in slot 97; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
A surprising call. With offensive lineman, running back and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 112 on Zakee Wheatley, a safety they were not short of.
Pick126
Rnd4
Max Llewellyn
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Max Llewellyn. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick152
Rnd5
Charles Demmings
Charles Demmings at the 152nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Boettcher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180
Rnd5
Dae'Quan Wright
The board had cheaper options than Dae'Quan Wright at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick196
Rnd6
Cole Payton
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Payton at slot 196, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
