Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Commanders answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: A-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Reaching for Powell-Ryland left real value on the table behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
On value alone, Williams makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the 6th overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Good price on Emeka Egbuka in slot 39, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 40, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at the 67th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick70
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
They took Payton Wilson at par in No. 70, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at pick 100 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
They paid a round early for Donovan Jackson in Round 4, Pick 2, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
They read the board right and Nehemiah Pritchett was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali in the 181st overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223
Rnd7
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Value said wait; Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 223rd pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
They will replay Isaiah Williams at No. 239 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
