Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a A-.

The Bears treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 141 on Ainias Smith a full 34 spots early. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Landing Latham that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Spending an early pick on defensive back with running back, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

In the end it comes back to Malik Nabers, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In pick No. 4 they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jer'Zhan Newton
The board had Jer'Zhan Newton higher than pick 33, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick34 Rnd2 JC Latham
JC Latham at Round 2, Pick 2 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101 Rnd4 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at the 101st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Max Melton
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Max Melton adds a defensive back and leaves running back, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Pick106 Rnd4 Troy Fautanu
A reach on Troy Fautanu in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They liked Darius Robinson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 132. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Tyler Guyton
They paid a round early for Tyler Guyton in the 133rd overall pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick141 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at pick 141 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Riley Leonard
A tidy little value on Riley Leonard in the 182nd pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick225 Rnd7 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
