Shepddog DRAFTING FOR THECowboys
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys robbed the room for Riley. Final grade: B. When a board-topper like Quincy Riley slides to No. 204, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They are betting Conner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In pick No. 12 they get a load in the middle, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Fair-plus on Jihaad Campbell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson slipping to slot 76 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke at Round 5, Pick 11 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in the 174th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick204
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Taking Quincy Riley in the 204th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick211
Rnd6
Woody Marks
Somehow Woody Marks was still sitting there in No. 211, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Kobe Hudson in the 239th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
