FutureA+
The Raiders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Raiders reached some 54 spots for Dominic Zvada, and value like that does not grow back. Put together, it is a D+.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Neal falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Hill Jr. in pick 33, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Nothing to complain about; Olaivavega Ioane went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
A'Mauri Washington
A tidy little value on A'Mauri Washington in No. 65, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80
Rnd3
John Mateer
John Mateer at slot 80 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick101
Rnd4
Julian Neal
The board fumbled Julian Neal all the way to Round 4, Pick 1, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
By-the-book stuff, Monroe Freeling at pick No. 115 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick136
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
They paid up for Iapani Laloulu at No. 136 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick175
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
They let Aaron Anderson come to them and pounced at the 175th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick183
Rnd6
Quintrevion Wisner
They jumped the gun on Quintrevion Wisner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Patrick Payton this early at pick 189. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick217
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada in pick No. 217 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
