Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB+ FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Teddye Buchanan, taking him 23 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Loveland steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In the 11th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick43 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Taking Colston Loveland in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Savion Williams
They paid up for Savion Williams at the 75th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
No drama and no debate, Cam Skattebo went about where he belonged in No. 100. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Good price on Jordan Phillips in pick 113, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147 Rnd5 Logan Brown
No edge and no loss on Logan Brown in Round 5, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
Nothing to complain about; Andres Borregales went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the 227th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at Round 7, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III at No. 252 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
